On 18 October 2011 Majors of Amata, Jaunpiebalga, Ligatne, Pargauja, Priekuli, Rauna and Vecpiebalga municipalities in Latvia have signed a Letter of Intent for cooperation with municipalities in Norway – Aaremark, Marker, Romskog, Spideberg and Ostfold County Council. The aim is to promote cooperation between the two countries’ local governments on democracy, regional development, entrepreneurship, tourism, innovations, encourage active youth involvement in the arts and culture, and continue the collaboration in health and environment areas on local and regional level. HEPROGRESS Strategic Manager Anna Broka presented ongoing project on inequalities in health that is being implemented by leading partner Østfold County Council in Norway and 7 partner municipalities in Latvia. This is an example of how both countries are working together and trying to reduce existing health related social and gender inequalities and barriers to social and economic participation. The aim is to share knowledge and exchange among the partners by using evidence based local policies, interventions and empowerment planning. Anna Broka introduced the work with concluding remarks from the First Conference that was held in Amata on 16 September 2011 and informed about activities carried out both in Østfold and partner municipalities in Latvia. |
