Niels Kr. Rasmussen has been appointed as project manager for Heprogress – a new EU funded project lead by Østfold County Council.

Rasmussen is a familiar face in European public health, not least through a series of published articles and reports from his research. He has also for many years been linked to Eurostat and various projects in the European Commission. Rasmussen has MA in sociology, with economics, psychology and statistics.

In recent years he has worked as an free lance consultant, and has also been affiliated with the University of Copenhagen. He was employed for 25 years at the National Institute of Public Health in Denmark, where he worked for 15 years as a research manager.

Rasmussen is known to facilitate research in a way that build bridges to the practice field. This was demonstrated in the precursor to Heprogress, the HEPRO project. Here he was central in the efforts to develop the HEPRO model and subsequent analysis of a population survey in 6 countries [1]. The model was developed in close interaction between users and professionals in Norway, Sweden, Finlad, Denmark, Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Heprogress is supported by the European Union Programme for Employment and Social Solidarity – PROGRESS (2007-2013) and managed by the Directorate-General for Employment, social affairs and equal opportunities of the European Commission.
