At the final conference in Brussels, the project management presented exciting plans for a new project based on the experiences and results gained in HEPRO.

The vision of HEPRO is to show the positive link between spatial health planning and human health, well being and quality of life. This is accomplished, amongst other things, through innovative actions, developing of tools, networking and the creation of HEPROFORUM.

The aim is to contribute to the development of sustainable health policies. It is important to consider the fact that regional and local authorities are at various stages of development in understanding and applying such strategies.

- Even if we have obtained important results in HEPRO, the project must be seen as a first step in placing public health as an important issue on the political agenda, both regionally and locally, says project leader Arvid Wangberg.

In line with the vision of HEPRO, the project is therefore to be followed-up by a new project which builds upon the results and experiences obtained in HEPRO.

An initiative group will start to work on the follow-up project in January. A project application is to be presented by summertime 2008. Interested partners will then be involved in the project.

The initiative group will look at different opportunities for future projects. New INTERREG rules and objectives as well as experiences made during HEPRO will have an impact on the follow-up project.
