In 2011 a survey, based upon the HEPRO-model, will be carried out in Østfold. More than 20.000 inhabitants will take part. TNS Gallup is hired to collect the data.
The survey will give municipalities in Østfold information about for example the following areas: marginalisation, handling and mastering, social participation, self-experienced health and life quality, health, disease and sufferings, environment related resources, individual resources, environment related harmful and risk factors in the vicinity, harmful and risk factors to people
Purposes of the type of survey to be conducted in the project are:
- Providing a holistic view of health and quality of life in a local geographic area.
- A health profile is mainly a tool for practical purposes, not a research tool.
- The health profile intends to identify the strengths and weaknesses of a local community.
- It is meant to identify groups with special needs.
- It is meant to be a basis for making priorities in the planning process.
- It is meant to indicate the potential for change and development.
- It is meant to be a tool for formulating goals.
- It can be used for benchmarking (comparisons to identify best practice) and evaluating policies and services.
- It provides information to democratic decision processes, which can help to make questions of health and welfare visible to the inhabitants.
